HTML
Help Files with style sheet. GeomCaliperTM is a software
product developed and marketed by Geometric. GeomCaliperTM
is an innovative tool that facilitates measurement and checking
of thickness on CAD models. GeomCaliperTM
enables acceleration of the design review process for manufacturability.
We developed Online Help Files for GeomCaliperTM.

Challenges
Help
Files are developed as .hlp or .chm format and linked with
the software application. For Geometric we had to develop
the help files in HTML format using Dreamweaver.
Due to frequent change in the User Interface and logical
flow of the product, our team had to implement the changes
during the process. The index provided for the help system
was to be in a tree structure, which the plain HTML files
could not handle.

Solution
Since Technowrites writers are trained on various tools,
we had capability to work with Dreamweaver and Java. The
tree structure was later constructed using Java with continuous
feedback from the Geometric team.

The
help system was developed using Dreamweaver and the
output was kept as plain HTML files. This was designed
with a vision of using these files through any browser-based
technology.

This
design enabled the help system to be effectively and
efficiently customized for:
1. Both standalone and Catia based versions
2. Developing Multilingual help system
- The
Table of Contents for the online help was designed as
a tree structure, to maintain a hierarchy in the Headings.
This was done using Java.
